About Our Medallions
- Our medallions are created using 3/8″ high quality marble, granite, travertine, porcelain, or customer supplied material. Note: Some online retailers will try and make you believe that their thin stone veneer medallions on aluminum backing are higher quality then our solid stone medallions cut from natural stone in 12″ x 12″ – 36″ x 36″ tile. This is a dishonest statement. First, this means they are not actually manufacturing the medallions themselves in the USA, but are importing or getting the medallions from a middle man. These medallions are cut from slabs, however, they are then thinly sliced (usually only 3/16″ thick) to make multiple medallions from a single original medallion. They then add a aluminum backing for support to get a total thickness of 3/8″ (3/16 stone + 3/16 aluminum backing). This is what is known as a thin veneer medallion . It is likely all they will state is their medallions are cut from slabs. Always go with solid stone medallions, they will last for centuries.
